Lucid Recess an Alternative Metal Band from Guwahati 

Formed in 2004, Lucid Recess believes in making music that appeals to both the head and the heart. Primarily focused on writing catchy and intelligent alternative-metal nuggets with lyrics that generally talk about life and its many constituents, LR from the very beginning, have remained totally unbarred of commercial whims and predicaments.

LR’s sound revolves around a backbone of bassline build-ups that runs deep through the distortion-filled torso of this Alt-metal body. Rebellious tones play like vinyl on a turntable pushing aggressively through a crowded room, pressing ever more to be heard through the inconsequential bodies that surround. They’re a marriage of simple rhythm with a symbiotic guitar and drum relationship effortlessly delivered in three minute stripped down bursts.

‘Tribe’ their latest single from their debut album ‘Engraved Invitation’ released earlier this year punches a solid combo of skill and imagination: a head shaking, guitar twanging, and snare smashing song, with vocals that slap you in the face. One of the most sinister bands of the North-east- one’ that’s bound to set the cats among the pigeons.

Lucid Recess is an Alternative Metal band from Guwahati, Assam, India formed in the spring of 2004 by brothers Siddharth and Amitabh Barooa. The Lucid arsenal took its present form when smoking ace Partha Boro joined as their drummer in 2009!

The music is a blend of Alternative Metal and Rock with limitless sensibilities. One that eludes description.

18th of December, 2007 saw their foray into the unknown and unsuspecting as Lucid Recess released their 7 song EP ‘Carved’ . Lyrics on the EP were generally centred around various social issues, a la, Aids (The Maze), Global Warming (End That We Know), Terrorism (The Forever War), Alcohol and Drug abuse (Painstaking Obsession). ‘If I Could’ received a 3/5 in the Rolling Stones India magazine. The EP was self-recorded and self-produced at the Lucid Recess Studios, Guwahati!

‘Painstaking Obsession’ saw light as a music video on the 26th of October,2008. It was created and directed by Rueben Isaac and the cast were postgraduate students in Theatre Studies, The University of Surrey, UK.

After a lengthy hiatus owing to production commitment, Lucid Recess released their first full length album ‘Engraved Invitation’ under their own record label ‘LR Records’ on 26th of April,2010 in India. The album contains 12 songs including previously released singles ‘Can’t Help Me’ and ‘Socially Active Warrior’. The album was self-recorded and self-produced at the Lucid Recess Studios, Guwahati!

On the 8th of January 2011, Lucid Recess won the prestigious Toto Awards for Music at a prestigious ceremony held in Bangalore. Every year since 2005, this award has been honoured upon one outstandingly extraordinary band in the country!
